New Canaan Sidewalk Sale – Saturday July 19th

Mark your calendar for New Canaan’s biggest weekend of the summer ! Friday the 17th kicks things off with the sidewalk sale. Local stores set up right outside their doors with once-a-year deals on some of their best inventory. And then, Saturday the 18th is the main event — three streets turned into a pedestrian mall packed with bargains, food, live music, and enough kids’ activities to wear out even the most energetic five-year-old.

  • Shop the Sale

Storefronts up and down Elm, Main, and Forest put out their best deals of the year for the sidewalk sale. Bring a bag and budget more time than you think you’ll need — this isn’t a quick stop.

  • The YMCA Family Fun Area

Head to Main and Elm for the YMCA’s Family Fun Area, the go-to spot for kids all weekend. On deck: bungee jumping, airbrush tattoos, a family photo booth, arts and crafts, and prizes.

  • More Entertainment for Kids (and Adults Who Act Like Kids)

Fan favorite Gary Sirico returns with his balloon animals — a fair tradition that always draws a crowd. A face painter will be on hand for anyone who wants a new look for the day, and a psychic will be reading for anyone curious what’s next.

Waveny Family Fourth – Friday July 4th

The Annual Family Fourth of July Celebration will be held on Satuday July 4th at Waveny Park.  The late day activities will include: family picnicking, live music, children’s games area, food court, and a spectacular fireworks display.  Gates open at 5 p.m.

Grab your picnic blanket and beach chair and join your New Canaan neighbors as we gather to celebrate our Nation’s birthday with festive music, food trucks and fireworks!
Cars: Enter through the South Avenue entrance; Lapham Road is exit only. Please display your pass on your car dashboard – one pass per car
Walkers & Cars parking at NCHS: Please have your paid pass with you for entry into Waveny Park.
Passes are $40 each and are sold to New Canaan residents.

Prohibited from the park during the New Canaan 4th of July Fireworks event: dogs, personal drones, grills, candles, personal fireworks, and sparklers.

A helicopter will release 2,000 golf balls over a target at Waveny Park.  Each ball will be numbered individually and the participants whose golf ball(s) land closest to the target will win one of the grand prizes below!  100% of proceeds will be donated to need-based college scholarships for NCHS graduates.  ​​Spectators are welcome!

Throughout the years, Walter Stewart’s Market has generously partnered with the NCSF and recognizes the long-standing community effort to provide need-based financial aid for NCHS graduates pursuing higher education at the undergraduate level.

Spectators will be allowed to view the NC Color Drop from a safe distance in Waveny.  Golf balls are available for purchase at www.nchs-sf.org/colordrop.

The Rotary Club of New Canaan was chartered in 1959 as a member of Rotary International, the World’s Largest Service Organization. Lobsterfest is their Foundation’s major Annual Fundraiser, with all proceeds to benefit local and international charities through our Grant Process.

Look for our farmstand on Elm street Saturday, 9am to 4pm, selling the freshest local CT fruits and vegetables and partnering again this year with Rachel of Rock, Paper, Scissors events to offer fun promotions!

Perfect Summer Event!

Sponsored annually for over 50 years by the Chamber of Commerce, and held every year on the third Saturday in July, the origins of the Sidewalk Sale date back to the 1920’s, when merchants put their wares on the sidewalks for sale. In recent years the Event has expanded to include a “Pre-Sale” day on Friday for New Canaan’s local merchants to put all of their merchandise out on the Sidewalk.

The fair offers local residents and regional visitors an action-packed, bargain-filled, entertaining, and delicious way to spend a summer day in one of the most charming towns in Connecticut. The event always offers many family friendly activities, with merchants showcasing an amazing array of products and services. Sure, there’s a little inventory spring cleaning going on, where many of the best deals spawn from, but some merchant’s have specifically ordered their customers’ favorite items to be sold at discounted prices exclusively during the Sidewalk Sale.

The Harvest Festival is southern Fairfield County’s first genuine beer (& wine) festival. It is an adult only evening featuring live music and local microbreweries and wine. Participants can choose from three different walking tours – it’s a fantastic night out with family and or friends.

The kick-off party begins at William Pitt Sotheby’s New Canaan Office from 5:00pm. Collect your wristband and map and head out on your selected tour(s). There is a 2.5-hour window for you to do your self-guided tour. All tours finish at 8:00pm sharp.

Walter Stewart’s Joins the NC Color Drop

The NCHS Scholarship Foundation (NCSF) welcomes Walter Stewart’s as a title sponsor for the third annual NC Color Drop to be held on March 25th, 2023, at 10:00am.  That Saturday morning, a sleek Bell407 helicopter, courtesy of HeliNY, will once again fly over the skies of New Canaan and hover over Waveny Park, safely releasing 2000 colored golf balls over a designated target.  Each golf ball will have an assigned number.  The lucky winners, whose ball lands closest to the target, will win one of the following special prizes:  a Momentum Transend Electric Bike, a Pet Portrait by artist Emma Sims, a season pass to the Steve Benko Pool at Waveny Park, or an 84 Sports gift basket.  The winning balls will be announced immediately. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the NCSF for need-based scholarships given to NCHS graduates.
